Elyse R. Park, PhD, MP.H and Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School presented at the 2022 ASCO Annual Meeting on the findings of the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study.
The Study is a collaboration with the Childhood Cancer Survivor Study and is a pilot randomized trial assessing a virtual patient navigation intervention for long-term childhood cancer survivors. Dr. Park and her colleagues have been working for almost two decades to identify barriers that cancer survivors can experience in obtaining health insurance and understand how navigate it for their specific needs.
Based on the research of Dr. Park and her colleagues, an intervention was developed with the goal of working with cancer survivors to help them understand their individual health care plans. The Study found that individuals who received both health insurance literature and individualized guidance had improved outcomes including health insurance literacy, a reduction in the psychological stress from related financial burdens. and a better perception of their health insurance plan.
